History:

  • The Playhouse opened as The Royal Avenue Theatre in 1882.
  • Recent highlights have included Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown with Tamsin Greig, Speed the Plow with Lindsey Lohan and 1984. In 2015, the Playhouse played host to the Rocky Horror Show 40th Anniversary with Richard O’Brien himself as the narrator.
  • In 2003, ATG took stewardship of the Playhouse and has concentrated on presenting musicals, including the award-winning La Cage Aux Folles and Spamalot and in 2013 ATG took full ownership of the theatre.
